All Together Bury: Sid Sethi, Specscart

In the next part of our All Together Bury series, we’re celebrating the businesses putting our town on the global map. This time, we caught up with Sid Sethi, founder of Specscart, the fast-growing eyewear brand based on Union Street.

Designing and manufacturing glasses right here in Bury, Specscart is changing the way people think about eyewear – combining style, speed and accessibility.

Q: For anyone new to Specscart, how would you describe what you offer?

Sid:
Specscart is one of the fastest-growing eyewear brands in the UK. We design and manufacture high-quality, stylish glasses right here in Bury, making them more accessible and affordable.”

“Thanks to our local manufacturing and in-house glazing lab, we can often deliver glasses within 24 hours. Our mission is simple – to transform glasses from just a tool for sight correction into a sustainably made fashion accessory that people genuinely enjoy wearing.”

Q: How did the business begin?

Sid:
“It all started with a broken pair of glasses just days before my university exams. That moment made me realise how slow, expensive and outdated the eyewear industry had become.”

“The market was dominated by a few major players, and customer experience often came second. I wanted to change that – to solve real problems I had faced myself.”

“So we built Specscart around the customer. Premium, fashion-forward glasses at prices up to 70% lower than the high street, delivered faster than people thought possible.”

“What’s been most rewarding is that the local community believed in us from day one. They became our strongest supporters, helping us grow from a simple idea into a global brand.”

Q: What makes Specscart special — and uniquely ‘Bury’?

Sid:
“I started this business as an immigrant student with limited resources but a big vision. Today, we ship glasses made in our Bury lab to 132 countries across every habitable continent.”

“But none of it would have been possible without Bury. The town welcomed me, supported me and gave me the foundation to grow.”

“Bury’s multicultural, hard-working and ambitious spirit created the perfect environment for a young brand to dream big and prove that world-class ideas can start here.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of Bury’s business community?

Sid:
“The genuine sense of togetherness. People support each other, celebrate wins and offer help during challenges.”

“When you start without a network, that spirit means everything. Bury makes you feel seen, supported and capable of building something meaningful.”

Q: This campaign is called ‘All Together Bury’. What does that mean to you?

Sid:
“To me, All Together Bury is about honouring the town’s heritage while building its future.”

“Our home is in the former Royal Bank of Scotland building – a landmark in the town centre for generations. We’ve transformed a space once known for traditional banking into one focused on innovation, design and craftsmanship.”

“We’ve created local jobs, invested in on-site manufacturing and continued to grow alongside the community. Being ‘All Together Bury’ means carrying forward the town’s proud history while shaping its next chapter.”

Q: And finally — your Bury favourites…

Hidden gem:Rollers – the sandwiches are incredible.”
Go-to coffee: “An iced latte from Tim Hortons or ‘Timmies’ as we call it.”

Q: What’s next for Specscart?

Sid:
“We’ve grown from a small shop in a quiet corner of a mall to delivering eyewear to 132 countries but it still feels like we’re only getting started.”

“Our next step is building a truly global e-commerce platform while strengthening our roots in Bury.”

“I’m most excited about creating one of the world’s finest end-to-end eyewear manufacturing ecosystems right here in Bury. We’ve already built our in-house glazing lab and the UK’s widest lens bank. The next chapter is full vertical integration — designing, prototyping and manufacturing frames and lenses under one roof.”

“We want to show that innovation at a global scale can happen in a town like Bury.”
