Bury Lantern Parade Returns to Light up the Town Centre

Bury Lantern Parade returns after the success of last year. Both Bury BID and The Met are delighted to announce that the Festive Lantern Parade will be returning to Bury Town Centre in November.

The Town Centre will host this special seasonal gathering welcoming children and families who have created magical lanterns in schools and community workshops. In 2023 over 200 hundred people joined the parade.

When is the Bury Lantern Parade?

The event will run from 5pm – 7pm bringing live music and some special surprises for our parade participants and their families.

The theme for the special event will be ‘Flight’ representing imagination, freedom and the beauty of soaring above – lanterns and large-scale puppetry will recreate a magical natural takeover of the town centre.

Lantern Making Workshops

The Met have run a series of creative workshops with local schools from across Bury, including Elton Primary School, East Ward Community Primary School, Greenhill Primary School and Tiddlywinks Nursery, to create the lanterns.

If you would like for your school to host a Lantern Making workshop, please contact  education@themet.org.uk

There will also be free to attend lantern workshops taking place at The Met and Bury Art Museum with limited places. Families will create lanterns made from willow and paper which will light up the town centre as dusk falls.

When will the workshops take place?

The lantern making workshops will take place:

Sat 2 November: 10am – 12pm The Met

Sat 9 November: 10am – 12pm Bury Art Museum

All workshops are free to attend but must be booked in advance

Bury Lantern Parade will leave The Met at 5pm on Thursday 14 November and culminate in an enchanting gathering and fire installations at Kay Gardens following the procession around the town centre with live music from Bury Music Service, Twisted Tubes and the Cacophony Arkestra and some very special guest puppetry from Liverpool Lantern Parade.

The Organisers

The event has been commissioned by Bury BID, funded by the businesses of Bury Town Centre. Working in partnership with The Met, the event aims to welcome families and communities into the town centre for a wonderful wintry afternoon.

Bury BID Lantern Parade is working in partnership with The Met and Bury Council. In addition it’s funded by the UKSPF (UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund) to invest in local communities to unlock extra opportunities for people. This will help people to get involved in arts, culture and local heritage in Bury.
