Exciting Changes Ahead for Bury Market!
Bury is investing £33 million in a major regeneration of its much-loved historic market, aiming to secure its future as a vibrant community and visitor destination. As part of these plans, essential improvement works are being carried out—including the installation of new canopies over the outdoor market and enhancements to public spaces.
To enable this transformation, the eastbound stretch of Angouleme Way (between Murray Road and Spring Street) will be closed during evenings and overnight from 7pm to 6am on certain days over the next 32 weeks, starting from 23 February 2025. Crucially, these closures are scheduled outside of peak traffic hours and market days to reduce disruption as much as possible.
While temporary inconvenience is expected, the long-term gains are significant. A new multi-purpose events hall, improved facilities, and a more attractive environment will strengthen Bury Market’s role at the heart of the town centre.
The market will remain open throughout the works, with local traders continuing to welcome and serve the public. This project represents a proud step forward—preserving heritage while embracing the future.
