Bury Lantern Parade to Light up Bury Town Centre

Sunday 26 November 2023, 3pm – 6pm
This winter Bury welcomes a very special event as families and friends come together for Bury Lantern Parade on Sunday 26 November.
Bury town centre will host this special seasonal gathering welcoming children and families who have created lanterns in schools and workshops in advance creating magical lanterns.
The event will run from 3pm to 6pm on Sunday 26 November bringing live music and some special surprises for our parade participants and their families.
The theme for the special event will be wildlife – lanterns and puppetry will recreate a magical natural takeover of the town centre.
“We’re so excited to bring this community led event to Bury. We’ve had an incredible response to our school workshops and cannot wait to share Bury Town Centre with families and friends at this magical time of year” – David Agnew, The Met
The free to attend lantern workshops will take place at The Met with limited places. Families will create lanterns made from willow and paper which will light up the town centre as dusk falls in late November.
The lantern making workshops take place at The Met on:
Sat 11 November: 11am – 1pm
Sun 19 November: 2pm – 4pm

The parade will leave The Met at 3:30pm on Sunday 26 November and culminate in a magical gathering at Kay Gardens following a procession around the town centre with live music and some very special guest puppetry and fire installations.
The event is has been commissioned by Bury BID, funded by the businesses of Bury Town Centre. Working in partnership with The Met, the event aims to welcome families and communities into the town centre for a wonderful wintry afternoon.

The Met is filled with music and theatre throughout the year, staging productions in the main auditorium, the elegant Derby Hall and hosting regular workshops and events in the community spaces. The Met ended last year with a fabulous finale in the shape of their hugely successful pantomime and tickets for this year’s production Aladdin are now on sale.
