A Fete Worse Than Death by Richard James

Ever wonder what happens when small town politics and rivalries get completely out of hand? A Fete Worse Than Death takes us right into the chaos of a village fete where the atmosphere is anything but peaceful.

The story kicks off when the newly elected committee chair meets an unexpected end. Suddenly, long-held secrets, infidelities, and intense rivalries over things like the size of the local prize marrows start coming to light.

Luckily, the guest of honour is a well-known actor who plays a TV detective. Far away from his scriptwriters, he is forced to step out of his TV persona and try to solve a real-life murder. Joined by the parish’s very own Miss Parminter, he must navigate a very colourful cast of eccentric characters. It’s a warm, funny mix of northern wit and a classic Agatha Christie style mystery.

All Saints Elton Theatre Company has been part of the local community in Bury for over a century, tracing its roots all the way back to 1912. Over the years, the group has grown from a local church dramatic group into a well known community theatre company, picking up a few regional NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) awards along the way. It’s entirely driven by locals who come together to act, build sets, and manage the production. They even have a youth group that started a few years ago, helping bring younger talent into the fold.
