Get ready for a brilliant time in Bury, because when those leaves start turning golden, our town really comes alive! October is officially Spooky Season, and with Half Term fast approaching, we’ve packed the calendar of Halloween events with everything from ghostly scares to great coffee.

Think of this as your local’s guide to making the most of the spookiest season.

The Headlining Halloween Thrills

You absolutely have to start your spooky plans by booking a ride on the famous East Lancashire Railway Halloween Ghost Trains (30 October – 1 November). Trust me, this is a Bury tradition! Grab your wildest fancy dress, step aboard the lantern-lit carriages, and prepare for some ghostly surprises as you chug through the crisp autumn air. It’s fantastic fun for all ages.

For the little monsters, head down to Mill Gate Shopping Centre on 30 October for their free Pumpkin Patch and Workshops. You can grab a pumpkin, get it decorated, and let the kids show off their costumes – it’s the perfect half-term afternoon activity. Or drop into The Fusilier Museum for Halloween Paper Lantern Craft Session (31 October) or Bury Market on 1 November for their Halloween Family Fun Day for more spooky, seasonal crafts and frightening face painting.

Frights, Films and Fun

Looking for maximum chills? Get your film fix at Vue Bury The Rock which has a fantastic line-up for Halloween! Catch big horror releases like The Conjuring: Last Rites or The Strangers: Chapter 2, or go for a nostalgic family fright with the Casper (30th Anniversary) screening.

After the cinema, you can keep the frights going with Spooky Tales at The Met on Halloween night itself.

Get Creative and Hands-On

Need a break from the costumes and candy? October is packed with opportunities to get hands-on and competitive!

If you’re looking to get creative, our friends at Two Crows Studios have some brilliant things happening:

For a brilliant family night out, challenge the crew to a game or two at Hollywood Bowl. They always have brilliant deals for families, and there’s nothing better than a bit of friendly rivalry over a burger and a lane.

All that ghost hunting is hungry work! Bury is full of welcoming spots to warm up.

Before you hit the haunts, why not stop for a brew and a bite? For a relaxed start to the day, pop into local favourites like Barista, Wax and Beans for a warm welcome and a coffee.
