All Together Bury – Dave Ashton – Your Photographics/Your Frame Shop
As part of our All Together Bury series, we’re celebrating the independent businesses that have become part of the fabric of the town. This time, we caught up with David Ashton, owner of Your Frame Shop / Your Photographics, a long-standing creative business based on Mill Gate (Minden Parade).
With over two decades in the town centre, David’s work has framed some of Bury’s most meaningful moments — quite literally.
Q: For anyone unfamiliar with Your Frame Shop, how would you describe what you do?
David:
“We offer print and bespoke framing services for both the public and corporate market. From personal photographs and artwork to professional commissions, everything we do is made to measure and tailored to the customer.”
Q: How did the business begin?
David:
“Before setting up on my own, I managed another retail business that had a photographic element to it. When that business eventually failed, I bought the successful part and decided to take the leap.”
“I was 26 years old, had no real idea what I was doing — but I knew I wanted to work for myself. Twenty-four years later, here we are.”
Q: What makes Your Frame Shop special — and uniquely ‘Bury’?
David:
“We’ve been part of Mill Gate since 2001, which makes us one of the most enduring independent businesses in the town centre.”
“The nature of what we do means we see all sides of our customers’ lives — weddings, births, anniversaries, losses, and everything in between. Because of that, we’ve built really close relationships with a lot of people over the years. It’s incredibly personal work.”
Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of Bury’s business community?
David:
“The independent businesses in Bury are brilliant. There’s a real sense of support, and it’s great to talk to people who understand the shared experience of running a small business. Everyone genuinely wants each other to do well.”
Q: This campaign is called ‘All Together Bury’. What does that mean to you?
David:
“For us, it’s about giving something back and staying connected. We’ve worked with Bury Hospice on several occasions, framing shirts for charity auctions — something we try to do at least once a year.”
“We also collaborate with other independents, including Two Crows Studio and Wax & Beans, and the nature of our work has naturally connected us with Bury’s local art community. Being ‘All Together Bury’ really reflects that sense of collaboration.”
Q: And finally — your Bury favourites…
Favourite spot: “Caffè Nero.”
Hidden gem: “The Burrs or Holcombe Hill — perfect for getting some fresh air.”
Go-to order: “An oat milk cappuccino.”
Q: What’s next for Your Frame Shop / Your Photographics?
David:
“We’re looking to expand our framing output and develop new products for our online business. We’re also exploring retailing artwork and prints.”
“We’ve recently started using AI to enhance our photo restoration service, and that’s developing at pace — it’s opening up some really exciting possibilities for customers with old or damaged photographs.”
