There’s theatre, music and endless festive foodie treats to sample plus a magical Lantern Parade (14 Nov) through the town centre to kick off the festive season.
For the foodies
Starting 8 & 9 November, it’s a welcome return for The Met’s Beer Festival. The historic Derby Hall will be taken over for two days by breweries from across the borough of Bury along with their vast array or artisan and craft beers for you to taste, discuss and enjoy.The Rock Shopping Centre continues the foodie theme with its own Christmas Food Fayre running from 22 November – 5 January. You can find fully loaded hotdogs, sweet treats and all your favourite Christmas market treats.We’re lucky enough to have a wide variety of bars and restaurants that cater to every taste. Not a fan of the traditional Christmas Dinner? Bury has everything from milkshakes to meat pie and pizzas to Pad Thai all washed down with a hot chocolate, a festive cocktail or a glass of fizz.
For the culture lovers
The Met offers theatrical festive treats. Get your panto fix with performances of Rumpelstiltskin, don your dancing shoes for the ABBA Reunion or enjoy the snow and sparkle of the magical artic adventure, The King’s Polar Bear. There will also be festive music from St Agnes Fountain (19 December) and Bury Church Choir will be performing carols at a Christmas Concert (20 December) at Bury Parish Church.
For families
We are excited to announce we are partnering with The Met again this year to hold a magical Lantern Parade (14 November). Come and watch the spectacular large-scale lanterns as they wander the streets of Bury, accompanied by music and followed by hundreds of handmade lanterns. If you want to join the procession, why not take part in one of the Lantern Making Workshops or soak up the atmosphere as the parade ends on Kay Gardens which will host live music and spectacular sculptures in a Fire Garden to welcome the procession back.
The Vue will be showing a selection box of Christmas movies and visual delights. You can catch anticipated new releases such as Wicked and the next chapter in the Lord of the Rings series, The War of Rohirrim, as well as the big box gifts of Moana 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King. Experience the sparkle and wonder of the Royal Ballet’s productions of Cinderella and the traditional festive charm of The Nutcracker on the big screen.
The run up to the festive season also sees the start of East Lancashire Railways ever popular, nostalgic Santa Specials, you can take a ride on The Rock Express Land Train, visit Santa in his grotto at The Rock Shopping Centre or make your way around the Snowflake Trail and visit the Winter Garden at the Mill Gate Shopping Centre.
