East Lancashire Railway invites new volunteers to Open Day

Ever fancied getting involved behind the scenes at the East Lancashire Railway? Now could be the perfect time to find out more.
The East Lancashire Railway (ELR) is hosting its first Event, Catering and Retail Volunteer Open Day on Monday 12 October, giving prospective volunteers the chance to meet the team, discover the different roles available and find out what it’s like to be part of the railway.
Volunteers play an important role in bringing the ELR’s events and experiences to life. Opportunities range from helping with luxury dining services and Rail Ale Trails to supporting popular events including Days Out with Thomas, the Santa Specials and the Halloween Ghost Train.
There are roles to suit a wide range of interests and experience. You could find yourself serving cream tea aboard a first-class carriage one day and helping to entertain visitors on a Halloween event the next.
No previous experience is needed, with full training provided. The ELR will help match volunteers with roles that suit their interests and experience.
Commercial Manager Lorna Kelly said:
“If you’ve ever thought about volunteering at the East Lancashire Railway but felt unsure, or wondered whether you have the right experience, please come along to our Open Day.
“You can meet our events, catering and retail teams, hear about the roles available and ask any questions you have. Whether you’re ready to sign up or just curious, we’d love to meet you.”
