Bury is celebrating another business success story as Specscart, the fast-growing eyewear brand with its headquarters in the town, has been named Retail Entrepreneur of the Year (North West) at the 2025 Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Founded in 2018 by University of Manchester graduate Sid Sethi, Specscart has rapidly grown from a single idea to an international retail and e-commerce brand. The company now operates three stores across Greater Manchester and manufactures its own affordable eyewear right here in Bury, offering customers 24-hour delivery on glasses made in-house.

Specscart’s innovative approach – combining stylish, affordable frames with speedy service – has positioned it as one of the region’s most exciting retail success stories. With the business on track for a £5m turnover in 2025, the award recognises the company’s game-changing impact on the eyewear industry.

Speaking about the win, founder Sid Sethi said:

“Specscart prides itself on being confidently contrarian. We’ve worked hard to make shopping for glasses fun, accessible and enjoyable. Whether it’s holiday sunglasses, everyday readers or standout fashion frames, we want every visit to feel like a bit of retail therapy. This award is a fantastic endorsement of our mission to reinvent what an optician’s can be.”

Often described as the ‘Grammys of Entrepreneurship’, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards celebrate inspirational founders from across the UK. Past winners include the creators of BrewDog, Tangle Teezer, LADbible and The Cambridge Satchel Company.

Frankie James, founder of the Awards, added:
“Our winners embody the very best of British enterprise—ambitious, resilient and relentlessly innovative. They create jobs, scale ideas and strengthen communities.”

Sid joined more than 1,500 entrepreneurs and business leaders at the prestigious ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House earlier this week.

Specscart’s journey began when Sid struggled to replace his broken glasses quickly and affordably while studying for his exams. With an initial investment of just £2,500 – alongside painting his first store himself and travelling the UK selling glasses from his car—he set out to completely transform the eyewear experience. Today, his mission remains the same: to make high-quality, fashionable eyewear fast, affordable and enjoyable for everyone.
