England’s biggest festival of history and culture.
Every September, across the country, thousands of museum, galleries, factories, archives, churches and more join forces and open their doors, offering folks a chance to explore local history, architecture and culture, all for free. It’s Heritage Open Day, and this year the East Lancashire Railway is getting in on the fun with a not to be missed “behind the scenes tour”.
Take a sneak peek into the various departments, visit Castlecroft Sheds, where all our engines are stored and maintained. This tour will give you an incredible insight into the work of our volunteers and what really makes the ELR so special.
